Surgical Hair Replacement
Are you interested in having surgical hair replacement done? There may be a little bit more involved than what you had considered. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however, because whenever you go through the process properly you’ll end up with a natural looking head of hair that is permanently yours. It can be cut, styled and it grows naturally. As a matter of fact, some of the better surgical hair replacement procedures are so good that it is difficult to tell that you had anything done at all.
One of the first things that occurs before one of these procedures happens occurs during the initial consultation, or perhaps during one of the follow-up visits. During this time, the doctor is going to go over your own initial goals to figure out exactly what you would like to see happen with the hair replacement surgery. During this time, measurements are going to be taken both of the area of hair loss and of the donor area. The donor area is the part of the head that is impervious to hair loss and it is where the replacement hair is going to come from.
The reason why these measurements are going to be taken is because it will give the surgical team an accurate overview of exactly how dense the hair replacement is going to be able to be. People with more donor hair will, obviously, have a better opportunity of having a full and thick head of hair. With the right type of hair replacement surgery, however, such as pinpoint hair replacement, you will be able to stretch the donor hair quite a long way. Don’t fall for some of the other surgical procedures that, although advertised well, do not do as nice of a job.
Prior to having the surgical hair replacement, it is a good idea for you to review the surgical plan with the surgeon. He will be able to give you an idea of their findings when the measurements are taken, always drawing a hairline and providing any further documentation that is necessary. This is often done just prior to having the replacement surgery completed.
As far as the actual surgical hair replacement, this really depends upon the type of surgery that you have chosen. If you have chosen one of the newer types of surgeries, such as pinpoint hair replacement, a mild anesthesia is usually given and after the donor hair is trimmed slightly, those hairs will be removed and replaced into the area of hair loss. After this, the donor hair area is closed with both surgical staples and sutures in order to ensure that it heals properly.
There certainly are a number of different things that go into these hair replacement systems, and anytime you have surgical hair replacement done you want to make sure that you research these things in advance. The more you know about the replacement surgery, the better of an opportunity you have of being happy with the finished product.
